What is a Growth Group?

Growth Groups are small communities of 6-12 people who meet in homes. These groups are open to anyone who is interested in developing closer relationships with other people in the church, growing in your knowledge of yourself, and learning what Christianity has to do with your daily life. They’re designed to provide a comfortable, home-based atmosphere where, with the support of a spiritual ‘family,’ members can ask hard questions, share personal struggles, and better understand the relevance and truth of Biblical teaching.

What happens in a Growth Group?

Growth Groups are more than simple Bible studies. Biblical truth is certainly a foundational element since the Bible is where we meet Christ and learn what He has to say to us, but Growth Groups also include worshipful singing, prayer, spiritual nurture, social events and the chance to demonstrate Christ’s love to our local communities through service ministries. Most groups meet weekly; some meet twice-monthly.

What are the benefits of joining a Growth Group?

• Sense of community – In our society today, it’s easy to become isolated. Suburban dwellers, with fenced yards and garaged cars, often have very little meaningful contact with their neighbors. Victories are enjoyed and losses are suffered alone. Growth Groups break this cycle by introducing people to each other and offering them a chance to invest in each other’s lives.
• A place to discover abilities and gifts – In community, we often help each other discover the abilities which God has given to us. Group participants are given natural opportunities to use these gifts to serve and encourage others.
• A place to grow – Personal growth, especially spiritually, happens best in community. On our own, we lack the insight into our own hearts and into the heart of God, necessary for spiritual transformation. The friendships that develop in Growth Groups provide a safe but challenging environment for members to navigate the Christian life together and begin to experience the new life that Jesus offers to all.

Growth Groups are communities of 6-12 people which welcome newcomers into a deeper experience of Christ and stronger connection with Christian brothers and sisters. Since Christianity is not a self-study program but a community venture, all Christians are encouraged to seek spiritual ‘family ties’ through growth, men’s, women’s or youth groups. Most Growth Groups will be taking a break from their regular schedules for the summer and will resume a regular schedule in September.
